“In caring for older adults in nursing homes, I believe in prevention, continual watchfulness and early treatment. Even when health problems are chronic or incurable, it is always possible to help people feel better by managing pain or other symptoms. Independence is important to people regardless of their age or living situation and I work to help people improve their ability to care for themselves.”

Education and Training
Margaret O’Brien received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Minnesota and her Master of Science in Nursing from Wayne State University.

Experience
Margaret has been a geriatric nurse practitioner (GNP) for over 25 years, primarily working with nursing home patients. She has been working as a GNP for Fairview Partners since the inception of the program in 1996. She is currently the Director of GNP services for Fairview Partners and Geriatric Services. Margaret currently provides care to Fairview Partners patients at Golden Living of St. Louis Park.

Licensure and Certifications
Margaret is certified as a geriatric nurse practitioner and an adult nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Professional Associations
Margaret is a member of the Minnesota Nurses Association.

Personal Interests
In her free time, Margaret enjoys traveling, knitting and birding.
